Print the group list on A4. Groups differ in size by at most one. This is random grouping, not a skill-based assignment. The picker never repeats a name until you reset it.
Questions
How many names and groups can I use?
Use 2–100 distinct names and 1–20 groups. You cannot have more groups than names.
Are the groups balanced?
Yes. Group sizes differ by at most one person, and every name appears once.
Does it group by ability or friendships?
No. The grouping is random, not based on personal traits or rules.
Does the name picker repeat names?
No, not until you reset it. Changing the name list starts a fresh pool.
What if two pupils have the same name?
Add a surname or initial to make each line different. Duplicate names are rejected to avoid confusion.
Is this free?
Yes. These printable tools do not need an account or payment.
Are my names and texts uploaded?
No. Your input is processed in your browser, not sent to a server.
Can I use the tools on a phone?
Yes. Use the preview before downloading. A larger screen may make editing longer lists easier.
How should I print the PDF?
Use A4 paper at actual size (100%). Check whether the tool needs portrait or landscape orientation.
Can I edit the downloaded PDF here?
No. Change the input on this page and make a new PDF.
Will my work be saved if I close the page?
No. These tools do not save your input. Download the PDF or keep a copy of your text before closing or reloading.
Ideas for using it in class
- Split the class into random teams for a project or a game.
- Use the name picker to choose who answers or who helps next, without repeating names.
- Change the number of groups on the spot when a pupil is absent.
- Names stay on your device, so a real class list is fine to use.
